Chapter Three: The Art of Photojournalism Matthew Jones

The Art of Photojournalism

Liverpool West derby

Year Created: 1900.

Principle #1:  I would say that there is a depth in field because there is a right amount of area that is focused on meaning you can see the train tracks that run through the city of Liverpool back in the day. It grabs my attention because it’s taken on a curve so you can see through the bridge.

Principle #2:  The image is in black and white which I think was a great idea because Liverpool as a city is a historic place. By doing this it makes the picture more powerful to look at if it were taken in color. By taking this picture in black and white is shows pride among the city for one of its landmarks.
Principle #3:  Rule of thirds. The photographer didn’t put the main concept in the middle of the picture. The reason for this because he wanted to get the train tracks in the distance. This picture shows Liverpool’s main transportation back in the day.

Why did I choose the image? I chose this picture because I am from Liverpool and the place that this picture is taken from in within walking distance from my house. This specific area of where the trains use to run back in the 1900 is closed down. So when I go back to Liverpool for the holidays I take my dogs down this walkway every morning. So looking at what it really use to be like in the 1900 to now is just a complete difference.

Empire State Building

Year created: Created: 31 December 1929
Background Compliments is a big one in this picture because we can see New York City.  This shows that New York is developing there city by building skyscrapers in the heart of it. We can see the smoke in the background so that can show the industrial side.
Exposure Time: it’s a freeze action of one of the workers on the empire state building. This shows that back in the day there health and safety wasn’t as strict as what we have in today’s society. You can see his facial expression which could symbolize the long hours he has put into his job.
Captured my attention because of the view in the background. It also captured by attention my attention because the worker is casually sitting over the edge while working. Lastly the fact that the worker isn’t wearing any sort of support equipment that could save his life if he was to fall.

I chose this image because I really like visiting New York and the fact that I was able to find this picture that capture all of the city all at once. Also the way how the worker is more worried about his job rather than falling from a high building.

This picture is in color. Using color can show the emotion of Jürgen Klopp (Liverpool coach) He is a very passionate human being and by looking. The color of the picture allows you to see the raindrops on his coat as he runs.
They have focused more on Klopp. This shows that he is the main piece of this picture. Also it shows that he is influential figure for Liverpool Fc.
Lastly this picture is very simple. It goes straight to the point of who it’s about and what they want viewers to think when viewing this.
I chose this picture because I am a Liverpool supporter and I like Jürgen Klopp as a coach. He is very passionate on what he does and it shows on the sideline. His action influence the players on the field and also the supporters.
